Corruption

Can’t find an answer to your backup or related question?
Not a problem, you can ask here.

Q. How can I tell if a backup isn’t corrupted?

A.
Part of your disaster recovery planning should include periodic testing of backups.

Several backup software packages include a verification stage when a backup is complete.  Some backup software will even provide the ability to verify your backups at any time in the future.

Even if your backup software doesn't allow you to verify your data, it’s pretty simple to do.  Simply restore your backup to a test computer/server and see how everything goes.

A great (and free) utility you can use to compare your restored data to your backed up data is windiff.  Simply type: "download windiff" in google and you can begin using it.
